My tale of woe! 700 1990

Hey, guys, I had a post the other day on milling my head, so this is a progress report- apparently this engine ( B230FT )had been overheated sometimes in it's life, and the head is warped. the machine shop ( a very good one ) is going to try to heat & straighten the head. no guarentees, it may crack.tho they have had success in the past. It had to be heated up to do a weld repair prior to milling anyway.Anyone have any experience with this process? assuming it fails; anyone have a head for sale? I was gonna do some preventitive maintenance on the turbo, while it was out; I'd noticed some oil smoke after prolonged Idle, but found the whole rotating group must be changed. appx $ 500.00. Compression on #1 & #2 cyls was 150 psi. this sound reasonable for 165K miles? how about rings & rod bearings while the car is down? can I pull the pistons/rods with the engine still in the mounts, ie from under the car? sorry for the long post. Thanks in Advance, Steve

I'ld expect there to be enough turbo cars in the junkyards. In your place I'ld go to the pick&pull to try to get a better head and have that reconditioned instead of having all kinds of surgery performed in an attempt to rescue a questionable head.

Never had a Volvo head straightened like that. Before you re-assemble proper torque the head to the block with the camshaft fitted but no valves. The cam runs directly in the head and there is a danger that it distorts sufficiently for the cam to lock up. I had .025" taken from my overheated warped head and the cam bearings were still in line.

    Regards
