Seat swap. 200 82

I saw a dead 260 4 door with decent black leather seats and nice interior in it a while back. I know I can use the fronts in my '82 240 Wagon, but is there a way to use the "skins" off the 260 back seat for the wagon back seat? My front seats are trashed and need replacing, but I'd rather get something nicer than the brown vinyl I have. I could likely get this whole interior for the price of 2 decent Sagaz seat covers in the local Canadian Tire. ($40 each cover...marginal good fit)

Also, The Haynes manual gives directions to remove the head rests, but I can't figure out where to "Press from the sides"

my 1990 has buttons that you depress these buttons are located directly below the head rest in the backrest. You can't see the buttons. You have to feel for them through the material on the backrest. I believe they are somewhere between 4 to six inches below the top of the backrest

and one more copied from the brickboard archives

The headrest button is deep in the seat back abour 4 inches below the headrest along the mounting posts. I've seen a few that had a brittle release that seemed to be frozen. Depending on how taught and tough the seat back material is it can be easy or require intense inward and downward pressure with your thumb to release the headrest. Have someone keep a little upward pull on the rest so when you hit the right spot, it will pop up.

        Jon

        Re: Seat swap. 200 82

I copied this from the FAQ's on 700's I am not sure how your 82 works so here is another opinion:

Headrest Removal. [Note 1:]It's a game of blind-man-buff... there is actually a hook/latch holding the two rods.. you have to press down at the back of the seat about 6 inches below the top of the back to release them. [Note 2:] There are little tabs that you have to push on each of the legs of the headrest, inside the seat. Some people claim they can do this through the seatcover, from outside, but I couldn't. I had to open up the seat and reach up. If I remember correctly, you have to push sideways. I guess it's worth trying before you open up the seat.
