Air Control Valve? 200 89

Can someone tell me what this does for a living??

It looks like it's a controlled Bypass to the throttle body. BUT WHY??

Re: Air Control Valve? 200 89

When the throttle is closed, the engine gets no air that way. The Air Control, aka Auxilliary Air Valve or Idle Air Control motor, allows air to bypass the throttle to keep the engine running. There is another device to allow increase in air at idle when a/c compressor is running to raise rpms under that additional load.

They can both go kaput, weird results.

Good Luck,

Bob

Maintains idle speed at 700 rpm and 900 with AC on.
