Whats all this Bad Wiring stuff?? 900 1996

I have recently purchased a pristine '96 960 wagon with 67K miles. All the wiring including the under-hood wiring looks brand-new.

I can see the wires for the injectors under the aluminum shield and the insulation looks clean and new.

I have removed the spark plug / ignition coil plastic cover and that wiring is clean and flexible...

What should I be looking for in terms of potential problems? Does my car have the problematic wiring but is just not exhibiting any symptoms yet?

TIA

Re: Whats all this Bad Wiring stuff?? 900 1996

/// Harness failure from bad insulation occurs in certain years. I don't remember the 96 as being one of those years. This is not my area of expertise. (Which years have the wiring problem.)

If you have a problem post the symptoms and try to limit the area of concern with simple tests.

For instance when you have a problem do the lights, wipers, radio work while the problem exists. Note dash readout lights etc. Then repost.

You found the Brick Board, Now find GOD! 900 1996

Seriously.

Congratulations on the current state of your wiring.

My 95 960 has twice the mileage as yours and I live in a desert. Both are mitigating factors.

Understand that you are now going steady with the Prom Queen. It's a beautiful ride, when it works. But she is an expensive date.

Production volume was low, so aftermarket manufacturers are not inclined to make parts, you will pay through the nose for anything that breaks. In my opinion, the car is severely over-engineered. I personally have had many many serious problems.

If I was unable to fix my own car...... in the 2.5 years I have owned it, repairs bills at the dealer would surely have exceeded $12,000. Because I am resourceful and have multiple wholesale accounts around town, my parts costs have been contained to around $4,000. This is way too much in 2.5 years.

Stick around the BB and learn all that you can friend. Do it now, while it is in good running order. Please don't bookmark the page, then come back with a message titled "HELP!!" when something breaks.

READ Steve Ringlee's FAQ. In fact, do what I did and print out a copy. Keep it in the john. Read it during that 10 minute interlude each morning.

KNOW that car.

Thats my 2 cents. Keep the change.
