door & spring

Anybody ever replaced that silly spring which holds the door open for you? Is it (was it) somehow integral part of the hinge or is it (was it) separate (well, now it is separate for sure) and what can be done?

    My spring has been separated for years but the hinge is working as well as before but makes a terrible sound every time I open my mouth. I guess it has to do with age and poor dental maintance.
