Quick question.

What are the symptoms of a the timing gears going?

Because my ignition timing has started to move at idle every 4-5th revolution. Is this one of the first signs?

on those 4 and 6 inline engines..you will hear what sounds like rod knocking...when you rev it...

No, there isn't a knocking sound yet. Just thought it was strange that the timing was moving around at idle.

If the timing's "jittering," then the bushings in your cam might be worn. This causes the dwell to vary as the distributor shaft wobbles, which will change the instantaneous timing.
