Strange things are happening with my 940 SE, the overdrive switch is not working and the trans seems to shift into 4th too quickly,(if you are not hard into the gas). It will shift into forth and if I accelerate a bit firmer it will kick down into third and acc. normaly. Is it the switch in the shifter, or somthing at or in the trans. Please let me know if any of

you brickheads have any ideas

The o/d switch in the shifter activates the relay in the relay panel, which in turn operates the o/d solenoid and places you either in or out of o/d. If anything in this circuit is faulty, then your o/d may have problems. In your case, start with the relay, then look at the wiring and connectors to the o/d solenoid, then the solenoid itself. Perhaps the switch is faulty as well. By the way, the only time you need the switch is when you want to stay in 3rd gear.

My overdrive switch was not working properly and what i did was to take it away and i cleaned it with WD-40. I installed it back and it was just like new. Before any expensive or difficult search go for this first!
