960 flame trap 900 1996

Does the 960 have a flame trap? If it does, where is it and how do I access it for cleaning. Do I also need to clean the throttle body on this car? Does anyone have directions for doing this?

Thanks a lot. Going to try to do some summer pm in the next week (oil change, fuel filter change, auto tranny flush).

Mike

The flame trap for the 960 is located in a hose which is connected to the elbow of the air hose to the intake manifold. Twist the hose and it will come out. Remove the flame trap and clean or replace. Simle and easy to get to, unlike some models. The throttle body should be cleaned at regular intervals, but the use of synthetic oil will reduce the need.

Use synthetic oil and a Volvo/Mann filter. Make sure the timing belt gets changed at the proper interval, 70,000 miles on our model year.

If it hasn't been serviced in a while it may be stuck! The housing is surposed to be a bayonet style affair but mine was so stuck the housing parts twisted in the rubber of the hose and the elbow and it took a lot of fussing to get it apart. Might want to have new housing parts available.

Also, the little elbows connecting the housing to the plastic hose down to the manifold vacumm are likely candidates for replacement.

I wouldn't mess with the throutle body unless there was a real reason to do it. It shouldn't be that dirty.
