Here's a good question: Why did Volvo stop production of 240t? 200 all

I've always wondered about why Volvo decided, in their infinite wisdom, to stop production of the 240 turbo after 1985? Because they are awesome cars, and if they had only continued until the end of the 200 series....

Did they do it to force people into a more expensive 740t? Or were there some tech. issues with the 240 turbos?

Re: Here's a good question: Why did Volvo stop production of 240t? 200 all

I've read that one of the main reasons the 240 Turbos were discontinued was that Volvo wanted to focus more on the new (at the time) 700 series. The limelight had already been shifted to the 760 GLE when it debuted in 1983, and the 740 and 740 Turbo which appeared in 1985. The 700 series was part of Volvo's market strategy of moving "upscale", and the 240 was supposed to be relegated to a more junior, supporting role in the model lineup.

Rather ironic, considering that the 240 series would still be in production through 1993, while the the 700 series disappeared after the 1992 model year...
