Mass air flow sensor 200 1990

My 1990 wagon has been giving me some trouble. It would run fine and then all of a sudden start to buck (kind of jerk you around, like if someone continously punches the accelerator in 1st gear at higher rpm) on the highway in 5th gear. Then it gave me problems starting, it seemed like it was flooded, I would depress accelerator and start fine, but when rpm dropped back to idle it would stall. Anyway, I had it checked out by a non volvo mechanic and he said its the mass air flow sensor. Does this sound right? How difficult is this to replace? how much should this part cost me and could I do it myself (I did do all the mods at the bottom of the page myself)?

Re: Mass air flow sensor 200 1990

I replaced my air mass sensor,it is very easy. I have a 87 760 turbo.

I bought a used one off of Ebay for $40 the local junk yards wanted

$100-125. Phone parts guy wanted 165?(free shippin?) 800 303 6544

or it might have been $200( for bosch). local:aftermarket unit $217

Dealer: 350 plus 50 core.

I bought a radiator hose and in tank pump over the phone.($32, $78+$11)

I bought a fuel pump relay at the dealer($45).

My car was stalling at idle then began stalling at low rpm, then stalled at 2,500 and would not run, It started but then died.

If you disconnect the AMM( it unplugs) the car will limp home, and idle fine. When I plugged in the AMM it started then stalled. Turn off car to

disconnected and connect, thats what the repair book said!

My car now runs fine. (151,000)
