Transmission / Mainsaft noise in 5th gear 200 89

I am te proud new owner of an 89 Volvo with a M47 5-speed manual transmission. It runs great, but in 5th gear their is a noise that occurs only when I press the accelerator pedal. The noise sounds like a fan blowing, not necessarily a grinding bearing. The transmission fluid looks good, but I rarely drive in 5th. It's strange that this noise only occurs in 5th, any ideas? Your input would be much appretiated.

Check the U-joints, I had the same problem w/ my 242 DL.
