Stupid question, what exactly is a "brick" ALL

I see the name used on the 240's but a 700 series looks more like a brick than a 200 series so I am confused.

Re: Stupid question, what exactly is a "brick" ALL

Your question brings up another: Why all this interest in old Volvos anyway?

To some they are a blend of low purchase price, safety, a smidge of status, and design that an owner can maintain.

To some there's a sort of cult about them, maybe a sort of culture.

You pays yer money and you takes yer chances.

BRICK?? To some it looks like one, to some it rides like one, and to some it is built like one.

I personally like a belnd of all the above.

Regards,

Bob

At least it's a Brick, the Chevy is 'like a rock.'

The interesting thing about it is that Lionel Richie's old band, "The Commodores", sang a song called "Brick House". While most people believed the song was about a well-built woman, it was actually about a well-built Volvo: "Just mighty mighty, just lettin' all hang out...She's a brick house!"

Re: Stupid question, what exactly is a "brick" ALL

Volvos are known for their boxy shape, at least those from the 70s to the early 90s. And since they are so strong and well-built, the nickname "Brick" became common.

Re: Stupid question, what exactly is a "brick" ALL

The name has now drifted with a few years age on the 'net to mean ANY Volvo......

Look at the shape of the 140 through 940 volvo's. See a certain similarity to the aforementioned object?
