940GLE 2.4TD, Ticking noise? 900 1994

I have had to replace the cylinder head due to cracks and now since it has been fixed I am getting a continous "ticking noise" at high speed above 2500rpm and it gets louder when the engine is under load like climbing a hill. I have got it checked by Volvo mechanics and they tell me its normal, but I know it is not because before the head change it was not like that. Anyone knows what it could be, I am aware of the vacumn pump making a similar noise but from what I have read it comes and goes.

Hi,

A great car.

Use only synthetic oil. The noise comes most probably from the hydraulic valve lifters. They wear very fast if run with dino oil. Mine lasted 120.000 miles with 100% Mobil 1.

The ticking does not sound normal.

You should have a VW shoppe take a look as the engine

is all VW you know. I have had very poor experience

w/Volvo mechanics when ever they serviced my diesel.
