Squeaking brakes and continuous whistling noise 200 1986

I just had new brake pads and my front rotors turned. Ocassionally my breaks squeak and now I am hearing this continuous low whistling noise. Does anyone know what that is? I was wondering if the back breaks were a problem?

Seems no one will touch your whistle. There are a bunch of things that can whistle. Tell me, is it engine speed related? Does it change pitch? Does it happen no matter what position your heater temperature control is in?

As to the brake squeak, I'm with Zee. I have wound up taking the pads out, wire brushing every metal surface that the pads touch, never-siezing the surfaces, and smearing the backs of the pads with the anti-squeal goo. Not fun, adds time, but like anything worth doing, it pays off.

Remove the pads. Spray the backs with Permatex Brake Quiet. While that is drying, squeeze the caliper pistons back into there bores to make sure they are moving freely, not binding. Clean, maybe sandpaper, the crud off the guide pins, and lubricate with disc/bearing grease or anti-sieze.

Reinstall the pads. You're good to go.....

quietly.

It's probably just your brake pads. Some are known to sqeak normally.

Re: Squeaking brakes and continuous whistling noise 200 1986

I agree with Reid, I just had the front brakes done on my 740, and a few weeks later, the things were squeaking once in a while. What it turned out to be, was the brake pads are harder, and give more stopping force. To not have the noise, ask for softer pads, but be sure to change your driving habbits, since your gonna need more room to stop.

Have fun, and keep on bricking!
