My speedo light burnt out. Where is the bulb located? Any helpful hints.

I have a 91 and there are only 2 lights in the dash, one on the right and one on the left, you can still reach up from behind and remove the lights, I was able to do it to mine. I tried putting a light in it from an older dash and it woulden't fit, I think volvo changed the size of the bulbs but I'm not sure which year they did it, I got some from work.

There is no spedo light. The panel has 2 lamps that light it. If your panel is dark both are burned out. They can be changed without removing the panel. You have to remove the felt under the dash and look up. The back of the spedometer is white. Above the spedometer on the left and right there are 2 black knobs. These are the lights. Don't mistake the 2 smaller knobs just below the big ones. The small ones are the blinkers. You just twist the knob counterclockwise and the bulb comes out. They are expensive suckers. The 89s have halogen bulbs, that I have only been able to find at the dealer. The older type don't fit, and believe me I tried when I found out how much they were going to charge me for the halogen ones.

since you sound familiar with the cluster lights, i have a 91 240. There seems to be two light in the cluster, one on the far right (temp and fuel gauges) and one in the middle for the speedo. The left side (clock) seems kinda dark. Before I go looking for a bulb that isn't there, can you confirm there are only two cluster lights on a 1991?

I don't have a 91 but I am quite sure the panel is the same. There is a big complication for you though. I am pretty sure there is airbag stuff in the way behind the panel, and I have no experience dealing with that.
