Hi Jeff,
Thanks for your reply. The 245 wagon I am working on is having problems with the fuel injection (I think). Here's the situation...
The vehicle was overheating... I found that one of the heater hoses (that go to the firewall near the brake booster) had a leak. I replaced both of the hoses and solved the overheating problem. The car was running fine and I was looking around the engine compartment and I noticed a connector that appeared to have come apart. The connector is in the area of the heater hoses and I thought that I had accidently disconnected them while replacing the heater hoses. One of the wires is about two inches long and is a ground wire attached to the aluminum intake 'manifold'. The "other" wire had what appeared to be a mating connector (one wire had a male connector and the other had a female connector). This other wire was blue in color and stuck out of the wiring harness that enters the firewall in the area of the heater hoses. Well, I thought that I had accidently disconnected these two wires and (while the ignition was off) I connected them together (effectively grounding the blue wire). I then turned the ignition to "on" and started cranking the engine for a moment. As soon as I did this my friend (who was looking at the engine) told me that a puff of smoke had appeared. After cringing, I disconnected the wires. and restarted the car. The engine started, however the idle was now very rough. The car will drive, however, the accelleration is VERY slow. It takes several seconds to get the car moving. The car will accellerate (slowly) up to freeway speeds (70 mph). Interestingly enough, the car will accellerate when the engine rpm's are in the upper range and the transmission kick's down to a lower gear.
I believe the fuel pumps are working properly, however, I have not used a pressure gauge to verify this.
Any thoughts on the best steps to troubleshoot this?
Best Regards,
Marcus
