suspension tools 200 90

I want to change the front and rear suspension bushings on my 81 262c and my 90 240 DL.I know these have to be pressed in. Has anyone pressed these using a vise and NOT having the VERY EXPENSIVE volvo tools? Did you use sockets and if so what sizes were they? Also any info who sells some of the volvo tools for less money, thanks,Nelson.

Re: suspension tools 200 90

Here's the link to the homebrew trailing arm bushing tool:

Copy & paste to your browser.

It's been updated since I last looked, there is a lotmore detail. As another poster mentioned, it should be easy to adapt to other bushings using the same ideas.

Patrick,

If you find the hyperlinks to the previous BB postings, would you e-mail them to me, too? Thanks

Re: suspension tools 200 90

I made a bushing push/puller out of a piece of threaded rod and varios pipe fittings, I got the idea from a BB post on pulling the axle mounted bushing and adapted it for all the other bushings.

Re: suspension tools 200 90

A machine shop (or a press-equipped repair shop) can press the old bushings out/press the new ones in for maybe $70 - $100 USD. This will take care of all the front bushings, and all in the rear except the rear trailing arm bushings.

For the rear trailing arm bushings, you must use a special tool of some sort. There have been messages here on the BB regarding the home-making of a tool, or there is a BB contributor who has the Volvo tool available for rent. He goes by the handle of "OD Guru"; however sometimes his work schedule makes him a bit tough to get a hold of... If you'd like, send me an email off-line and I'll forward it to him (yes, as Steve Martin used to say, "He is a personal friend of mine").

By the way, I've used his factory tool, and it works quite well.
