Gasket sealant - Yes or No???

I am about to assemble my fresh B20 just back from the machine shop. I have a full engine gasket kit,,,but should I seal the pan gasket and the timing cover with a thin layer of permatex on each sidew of the paper gasket?

Thanks

Re: Gasket sealant - Yes or No???

Sure, I always use Aviation Form-A-Gasket on those gaskets; for one thing, it helps hold them in place during assembly.

Re: Gasket sealant - Yes or No???

On the newer B 21,23,230 engines, no sealant is recommended or needed. The head gasket: none for sure. If you want to mess with the paper gaskets, use the aviation grade gasket goop as it stays flexible, and if it is good enough for aviation, it should be ok for your car.

As a rule, no sealant is required on the B 18 or B 20.

Perhaps George Downs will get in on this as he is active in your series engines. I have done it both ways.
