Where is the water tank for the rear screen washers? 900 1993

940 GL Wagon (is it a 945, or is that just a carry over from the 145, 245 series?)

I can't find any mention in the owner's manual.

I see the nozzele. I can trace the hose only as far as the tailgate hinge.

Any help??

Al Craig

Re: Where is the water tank for the rear screen washers? 900 1993

Al, as others said, it is serviced by the main reservoir under the air box. If you're not getting water to yours, a problem I too had, open the hatch, sit inside facing out the back, and pry off the access panels to your left (pass side of the car). The hose runs the length of the pass side, and there is a 2-way connection near the right tail light. My hoses worked their way apart from each other, and the water found its way out the drain hole in the right well behind the wheel, instead of out the nozzle. Now it's put back together and held securely to the 2-way coupler with very small plastic wire ties. Works like a charm now.

Re: Where is the water tank for the rear screen washers? 900 1993

On my '86 245DL I accidently cut the hose to the rear windshield washer which is gravity feed to the lower part of body (when not being pumped up to the hatch) from front big tank in motor compartment in the wagons.

I was rust repairing rusted floor on passenger side of car. I drilled right through the little hose and immediately was deluged with washing fluid. A shock to see water pouring out of my floor but easy to fix with a vacumn hose splint for a few cents at a parts store. Used a needle nose pliers to stop the flow until fixed. It's a simple vacumn type hose going back to rear under right side of seat beniegh carpet along side a wire going to computer on right of footwell.... at least in my 245. (Note be careful fixing floors and better pull up the carpets and maybe seats too before drilling and poking into rusty areas. )

Your problem could be in the rear hatch and a pinch developed ... or the pump doesn't work.....either easy to check.. but to fix is another matter. If you had a leak you'd know it as the fluid would drain out. You should hear the motor whirring (on a very quiet moment) if the pump works. Probably your pump's not working. If you hear it working then maybe the hose is pinched or clogged. You could easily lift the carpets, but more likely it'd be in the hatch area. The nossle itself maybe corruded....

Single tank serves both front and rear with two pumps mounted into it.

Craig,

If you don't have any fluid at the rear window then: The hose between the resevoir is clogged or crimped or the little pump for the rear window isn't working. I could be mistaken about there being a second pump for the rear . If there is one it would be right by the res.

Stop looking! It's the same tank as the front washer.

The 940 wagon is a 945.
