To paint/not to paint the exhaust system? ALL

Greetings all!

As I stand here looking at a nice shiny new exhaust system and the rusty old one, I wonder if it is worthwhile painting the new one (with high-temperature paint of course!) to prolong its life before I bolt it in? I know they rust from the inside out as well as from the outside in, but at least the paint would slow down the latter. Any thoughts please? T.I.A.

I painted mine I doubt it really helps the longevity but I didn't want that shiny thing standing out from under the car. I blacked mine out.

The Eastwood Company sells a paint for that application.

Haven't tried it.

My nunch is that 99% of the breakdown (reason to replace) in a muffler is due to internal rusting. The external surface is subject to surface rust, but the internal metal has all that moisture trapped inside until operating temperature is reached. Unless you want a cosmetic solution, I'd forget it. Now, stainless steel, on the other hand...

I would expect the road sand 'n pebbles to "sand blast" the paint in short order.

But what's to lose by trying?

Since you're choosing the paint, how about lavender?
