found a 164 in a salvage yard! 140-160 1970/74

I finally found a 164 in a junk yard. Sheesh.

For months I'd find 2 or 3 a trip, then after I

get my 164 I don't see a single one for months.

Argh.

Anyhow, this one is a smaller grill 74 and my

164, a 70, has the larger grill. Do the fenders

swap between them? My 164 has a very slightly

crunched right fender and a rotten paint job; it

seems like it would be cheaper to replace the

fender then repaint the car if I'm going to

repaint it anyhow (instead of having some

monkey with a hammer take the crunch out of it).

Also fenders are often pretty cheap.

Also, on a similar note, I would like to take

off the front suspension and rebuild / repaint

that and put that on my 164. Would I be able

to take off the front A-frames without a spring

compressor if the car is already off the ground?

Does the front suspension of a 70 interchange

with a 74?

Lastly, any hints on taking off the rear axle?

The junk 164 is an auto and so it has a better

rear ratio than the one on my 164.

Thanks!

chris

The wings are identical regardless of the front end on the car. The only variation is that at some point the bracket attaching the rear of the wing top the A post was changed, so take the bracket. The hole on the A post is identical.

You can remove the lower wishbone without a spring compressor. Easiest way is to use a trolley jack under the wishmone as you split the taper on the ball joint.
