1992 240 o2 sensor? problems. What Gives? 200 1992

Recent history:

My 92 240 has always (I have owned it 2 years)started hard when it is cold. It has been getting harder to start recently.

The car gets about 22 mpg...when I first got it it was more like 26.

About a month ago I got a 2-3-2 code in hole #2, with no check engine light. I have checked for air leaks and have come up with none. FPR is not leaking. A couple days ago I got a 1-1-1.

Today I was pulling out of Target, and the Check Engine light came on. I got a 2-1-2 code. The upper connections for the o2 sensor seemed ok, but when I unplugged the connector, there was no change in the sound of the engine.

I don't own a multimeter...yet. That would probably help. I am going to Ann Arbor Michigan(from northern Minnesota) on Monday with a trailer full of pottery.

Any thoughts or sugguestions would be appreciated.

Steve Lloyd

    Re: 1992 240 o2 sensor? problems. What Gives? 200 1992

The symtoms you discribe are what I have been living with my 1990 240DL w/ 212k. I pulled the O2 sensors and tried to match the values with a multi-meter for a propperly operating O2 sensor w/o any luck.

I value a proper diagnosis so I will pay the local shop to correct the problem and replace the parts as needed ( a O2 sensor in Akron ohio costs about 130 to 150 at auto zone. )

I am taking my old lady to the shop tomorrow and I will let you know what was done and how much it cost.

    History

My MPG went into the toilet after I made a repair to the fuel tank sending unit. It dropped from a high of 28+ to 18 with in 1 tank of gas. My last tank of go juice got me to a little over 22mpg. That is not accecptible and I expect it to improve by at least 10 to 15%.

Not to spam you but my my website has some valuable info you can acsess at no charge.
