Regarding Nivomats 700

No one can rightly accuse me of being a Volvo fan, Mercedes and BMW fan yes. Nonetheless, I want to give Volvo what credit I think it is due. Nivomats, I think, are effective at keeping level Volvo sedans and wagons that carry passenger or cargo weight in the rear, and not expensive at around $200 each street price. Consider they last a long time and the lifetime warranty from Boge and Nivomats look like a bargain to me. Consider that warranty and Brickboarders that keep their Volvos nearly forever, and Nivomats look to me like an all time bargain in top notch passenger car or wagon rear suspension. If you want a sports sedan, then you may want to put in 740 rear springs with Bilstein shocks on a 760. Still, it will not be a BMW 5 series. Best regards.

Not impressed with M5 01 BMW either.... 700

Drove an 01 M3 convertible and an 01 M5 back to back yesterday.

The M3 was offered at 9K! over MSRP...it was USED, had 200 miles on the odo and had been bought at auction.

Still, it was red, the stereo was ok if not great, and I had it for about 20 minutes ALONE.

Suffice it to say it's not worth 69K. Handles well, not as tight as the 98 or before M3, yes more power, but strangely enough doesn't feel like 330 hp. Wrong gearing?

OTOH, the M5 is nothing but a giggle in a straight line..I wish it had the handling of the M3 lane to lane...it felt like Queen Elizabeth lifting her skirts when whipping the saloon from lane to lane. FWIW, my 90 740T with IPD swaybars, Bilstein shocks rear and KYB front (too lazy to change out relatively new KYBs...but it's coming!) struts has less body roll and better bite on lane changes.

Wasn't impressed with 81K$ asking price either.

Now you know why Audi is selling like hotcakes..340hp S6 station wagon for $55K.

Re: Regarding Nivomats 700

Agreed! Purchase price and probably upkeep too! Recently one or two persons posted with questions regarding Nivomats. One by the name of Dana, I seem to recall, posted because some shop quoted her a price well over a $1,000 to install a couple of Nivomats, but she did not have the money. I wanted them to know that for around $200 each they can get Nivomats that can be easily installed anywhere and are rather good on Volvos. No offense intended. Best regards.

Naw! 700

I'm not going to quibble here. It is about a RWD feature of some of our Bricks. Heck. we all give opinions here, everytime someone asks which Brick to buy...and is especially true of our devilcars. Besides, it would get lost in the Opinions...in my opinion!

Sorry! 700

I must have been having an off day. The information on Nivomats is good and I wouldn't have picked up on that.

In my opinion, a stock '95 or later 960 with, equivalent tires, handles the equal of any German car out there. I base this on my experiences driving my son's '96 328i and a friend's mid size "BIG M". Power is another issue but so is price.

Re: Naw! 700

Thank you Shatz. A couple of people have recently posted questions regarding Nivomats because it was time to replace. One I seem to remember was "shocked" by prices quoted. Another did not have the small fortune some shop wanted to replace Nivomats on her car. I wanted them to know Nivomats are good shocks that work well on Volvos and could be bought for little more than $200 each with a lifetime guarantee last time I looked. In particular, the person who said she did not have the kind of money the shop wanted kind of broke my heart. Another person recently posted because he was quoted $700 for an alternator plus $300 to put it in the car. I let him know alloemvolvoparts.com had his alternator for $71 with free delivery. Best regards.
