'92 960, AC goes off when climbing of accelerating 900 1992

I have a '92 960 with 146,000 miles on it. For some reason the Air Conditioning will turn itself off when I accelerate or if I am climbing a hill, or I suppose doing anything that puts strain on the engine. The car runs perfectly, except for this annoyance. The air is freshly charged, and no leaks were found at the shop that charged it.

Can anyone here help me with a fix to this? It gets blistering hot in there in city driving, especially since it is black with grey leather interior (Ouch!)

Thanks alot,

Mike

If you do not want to replace the vacuum motor, you can remove and plug the yellow vacuum line going to the vacuum motor on the air box to the right of the gas pedal. That is the one that usually fails. It will keep you from being able to send all of the air to the floor but I never want to send all air to the floor anyway. This is the only drawback to this fix.

It is covered in Steve Ringlees 700/900 FAQ.

Your car has a vacuum leak. Best chance is one of the vacuum motors that controls the vent doors has a hole. I think what is happening is when you accelerate the air is being redirected to the floor. Look for some recent posts on this subject for trouble shooting and repair or just wait a few hours and the very capable readers here will help you out. Good Luck

One of your vacuum motors is bad.First try using the rec. button to test the recirc motor. If no change then the motor with the dual fittings is bad.It is located on the drivers side kick panel and is very difficult to change out, not recommended for not much experianced do it youselfers.Good luck ...Brent
