Resistor Plugs

Why does my '88 240 manual specify "resistor" plugs? I had some on NGK plugs on the shelf for my older 84 240 that I put in; runs fine. They weren't the "R" type. Any ideas why Resistor was specified?

Thanks, Robert

Re: Resistor Plugs

BTW,It is my understanding you should not combine the use of BOTH resistor plugs and resistor wires together. Choose either one, but not together.

Too much of a good thing intrferes with engine somehow.

Re: Resistor Plugs

Typically it is for noise supression. Often the radio would pick up engine speed through the speakers. I suspect this could cause problems with newer computer controlled units as well. Could be other reasons, but originally this was the reason.
