Windshield Removal 200 1985

Did it again.

Cracked the windshield (ws) trying to remove it. Ugly.

Don't really care about the ws, as I am replacing it with a 91 encapsulated unit.

But how does one properly remove the ws with ancient butyl?

I've watched pros do it but they tell me they break them too. (Not 2 for 2, as I am). They do use the nice suction cups.

PS John L. was a witness.

PSS What's the best way to get butyl out of the frame?

Re: Windshield Removal 200 1985

to get out a w/s (not worried about condition of old w/s after

it come loose)

put old horse blanket on hood

remove mouldings(trash), wipers, rearview mirror and visors

recruit volunteer

you sit in driverseat, volunteer in passenger seat

wear strong army style boots

you (and volunteer) slide down in seat like lowrider

put foot in left upper and center/upper of glass

(volunteer in center upper and right upper corner)

****PUSH****(like wife having baby)

w/s will fall out on hood

works every time it's tried!

Paul--use WD-40 to remove the old butyl. Just spray generously on the goo and on a rag and start wiping. The WD will dissolve the old butyl. Of course clean the surfaces with glass cleaner bere any re-install. Works on glass too.
