fuel injection 200 86

The #1 cilinder on my brick is not fireing it has spark my next thought is the injector. what is the best way to check this? Thanks, Greg

Greg, I'd say by far the easiest and safest way to check it would be to test for a bad injector by process of elimination. First disconnect the plug wire to the #1 cylinder. Does the car run just as bad, but not worse, with the plug disconnected? If so it is almost certainly the injector. This happened in my car. You can do a second check by swapping injectors. Depressurize your fuel system by disconnecting fuel pump fuses and running the car till it sputters or dies. Then loosen the fuel rail enough to get the injectors out. After that, swap the injectors from the #1, and any other cylinder. Does the cylinder with the suspect injector run badly now? If none of these help, I'd check for a proper electrical pulse from the electrical plug going to the #1 injector. I'm not certain how to do this, but if you ask around, this place will answer that question for you very quickly.

I really don't know much about your particular model but if it were

mine I'd take the injector out, put a piece of newspaper under it and

have someone crank or start the car while I watched. You should see

fuel from the injector on the newspaper. DON'T SMOKE while you do this!

If you don't get injection, and there are electrical connections to

the injector, put a meter on the connection and see if you get any

electric pulsing. If there aren't connections or if you do get pulsing, disconnect the hose and try again VERY briefly and see if fuel comes out

of the hose. If so, your injector is stopped up. If not, you have a

problem in your fuel distributor.

Caveat #1 - This is a logical analysis - remember that logic is only

a tool and may not always work!

Caveat #2 - Remember what you paid for this advice - it can't be worth

much less than that and may be worth more.
