Poor gas Mileage 900 940

I just purchased a 1994 Volvo Wagon which looks and drives great. The first time it was driven over the mountain and back from Asheville, NC, it used approximately 9 gallons of gas for a 120 mile trip. Disillusioned is a good word. Any ideas?

Model? Year? Engine? Without knowing what model you have I can only throw out some general stuff...

-Air cleaner plugged?

-Fuel pressure regulator bad?

-Flam trap plugged

-Plugged cat?

-Fuel leak?

-Bad O2 sensor?

-Bad Air Mass Meter?

Did the "check engine" light come on? You should also pull the diagnostic codes (if any)...because they can point you in the right direction. There are instructions in the 700/900 FAQ for doing this.
