Transmission question 200 85

I have an 85 240 manual transmission. Should I be able to downshift into 1st when rolling at 5-10 mph?

You should be able to, but it never seems to go smoothly. If the trans fluid is old, or if the cable is out of adjustment, it might be really hard to get into 1st while moving. When you let the clutch pedal out, where does it grab; near the floor or near the top?

Yes you should be able to. Generally the faster you go the more slowly you have to push it into gear. I think this is because the input and output shaft speeds are more mismatched, and the syncronizing cones take longer to line up. I think shifting into first while moving fast causes excessive wear on the syncronizing cones though, so I generally don't do it.

I usally like to double clutch, putting it into neutral then down into first
