Sluggish when cold 700 1991

My '91 740 wagon (non-turbo) is very sluggish in the morning when I first start it up. For the first few blocks, it doesn't seem to want to go over 20 mph. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Jenn

In Silicon Valley, where it's not very cold at all.

Re: Sluggish when cold 700 1991

It may be something like the engine temperature sensor gone bad. Not the one that feeds info to your temp guage on the dash, but the one that tells the computer that you have a cold engine and that it needs to run a little richer. That's just one of many possibilities.

Check out the 700/900 FAQ's on this site for info on reading the fault codes from the On-Board Diagnostics (OBD). It may give some clues.

Re: Sluggish when cold 200 1982

My 245 is having the same problem (more or less) but it will actually stall early in the AM when I am in traffic. It used to be that it would just cough and sputter but the problems seems to be worsening. Perhaps you have an educated guess. I thought that the control pressure (aka warmup) regulator had gone bad. Upon inspection it appears that the 2 of the 3 vacuum hoses that should going to/from(?) it are broken. Do you kown where these lines go? I would like to rehook them up and test the temp sensor. Any other suggetsions?

Many, many thanks,

-David
