my oil lite flickers like crazy, what could be causing this? i re did the wireing harness, and the wires on starter. but no luck?

What does the 5-bar gauge say? Does it flicker only at warm idle when prssure is lowest? Is it responding to low oil pressure or electrical noise?

the five bar gauge used to jump, but since i fixed all the cracked wires that seemed to be ok. but the light still flickers on and off all the time. not just when warm, or at idle. so i am fairly sure that the pump is ok.

What happens if you touch ground with the light wire, after removing it at the sender? That will peg the 5-bar at full right. If the light does not flicker, I suppose it sould be the sender contact for the light only? That would mean a bad $36 sender. Or you could unplug the light and keep an eye on the oil pressure gauge only. More likely it will be in the wiring between the sender and the dash. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Thew oil light on my 84 turbo flickers whenever I am low on oil. It will flicker even if my presure gauge is reading adequate pressure. Hope that helps.

My 84 DL flickers pretty much most of the time now (last 4 months). Seems to be related to acceleration...I'm thinking it's the sending unit's wiring may ground itself on the engine block when the engine jumps at an increase in speed acceleration.

I have an 85 DL with 135,000. My oil light flickered and now comes on strong when I accelerate but goes off at idle.

The car has plenty of oil.

Should I be concerned or is it just a bad sending unit?
