A/C compressor upgrade ? 1800 73

I have a '73 ES with the under-dash A/C unit and piston compressor. It works fine considering it's age, but the last time I had it recharged the technician showed me that the compressor was running at about 65% on it's output (pressure) side. If I need to eventually rebuild/replace the compressor I thought it would be a good time to upgrade to a rotary compressor plus convert over to the modern refrigerant. Then at Monterey that weekend I noticed several 1800s running modern rotary A/C compressors (specifically one called "Abacus 508"), which got me to wondering if there is a unit which is considered the standard rotary replacement unit for 1800 applications.

Thanks in advance ~

Daren

Daren;

Compressor upgrades are Bob Foltz's specialty...he offers a bracket which allows fitting a Sankyo unit...contact him at: 718-863-0964

Cheers,

I agree with Ron. Bob has been making the brackets for 1800 series for a long time. I see lots of conversions to the rotorary compressors at the VSA meets and it's always Bob's bracket that is used. Check the Volvo Sports America web site, Bob probably has an add there since he is very active in the club.

Contact hancockindustries.com or call 800 289 8282. They were good in helping me with 240 and 140 conversions. Same basic engines, just a tight fit.
