I am replacing a missing radio with one obtained from a salvage yard.The local Volvo dealer was contacted with a Model (TD-3141) for the tuner deck and a 9 digit code located on top of the radio, but he asks for a part No. which is supposedly labelled on the top of the tuner, but it lists none on top. I am trying to power the unit up on the test bench, with power to the three fuses etc..the preset LED's and oher switch LED's light up but no digital display. Is it necessary to have the equalizer plugged in as well or will the theft code, if obtained, enable the digital display to illuminate?

Any experience out there..(I can obtain a second unit to try if needed)

I don't know about the display problem you are having. I can tell you that if everything is working properly, when you turn it on, the display will read "code" or "cod" or something like that. Then you put in the code, and it works. I can't say for sure, but it kinda sounds like the display is dead.

If you go grab another radio, get the VIN of the car you pull it out of. Dealer should be able to give you the code from just the VIN.
