To All:
I just finished installing a factory oil pressure gauge in my 1986 765T wagon. The factory instructions included the following for SRS-equipped cars:
- Battery Cables
Always switch off ignition and remove battery ground cable if there is any chance that work will be performed near SRS components.
- Work under instrument panel or near steering shaft covers.
Take special care that no SRS leads are pinched, chafed, or drilled/screwed through e.g. when soundproofing knee bolster are installed or when work is carried out on the instrument panel, ignition switch or steering shaft covers.
- Work on driver's seat, center console or carpet near driver's seat.
The crash sensor is located under the driver's seat. Take special care that leads are not pinched, chafed or drilled through. The crash sensor connector must never be disconnected. No accessories should be installed near the crash sensor.
- Work on power steering rack or steering shafts.
Never disconnect steering shafts or steering gear without first locking the contact reel and removing the steering wheel. Refer to Service Manual.
- Test terminal in fuse box.
A vacant terminal in the fuse box is used as a diagnostic test terminal for SRS. No fuses or accessories should ever be connected to this terminal.
FWIW for those of you who are shade tree mechanics with SRS equipped Bricks, I thought you may be interested. Safety First
