Plugs / wires 700 1989

Hi, just wanted to say thanks for everything so far, hopefully one day I'll have the knowledge to help others in need on here from my own experiences. I still have some questions though:

It's nearing winter, and I am in the need of new plugs and wires again. I'm wondering if the Bosch plugs and wires that I find in my local auto parts place are good enough for my 740 turbo? Also, I went there and checked, and they don't have "740 Turbo" listed, all they have is 740 GLE and stuff. What is mine? is it a GLT? GLE?

Also, I'm driving around, and sometimes randomly without warning the little "OD" light will come on on the dash, and the car'll drop into 3rd gear without me pressing the OD button on the shifter (automatic tranny).

And then it'll just come out. This usually happens within the first 10 minutes of driving, and then kicks out on it's own after 5 or so minutes.

Also, I'm doing a project for my mechanical engineering tech class, and I need to dissect something mechanical and make a diagram of all of the parts. I am wondering if there's anyone out there that has an old busted turbo, fragged beyond repair, that I can use? If not, I can just do an old electric motor or something, but I was hoping to turn this project into something I can use. It can be any turbo from any car. I put up some requests in classified ads last week, but no one replied. It's due on October 15, so I have some time to go digging. There's no u-pull-it yards around here. I'll pay shipping and whatever you think it's worth.

Thanks again!

Re: Plugs / wires 700 1989

Check wires with an Ohmmeter..about 2K to 3K per Ft. of length. Clean and spray with silicone and replace. L to R from front 4-3-1-2 on Dist. Cap.

Go back to Copper Plugs (Bosch )from Platinum as wire wears away down in ceramic core. (Wire gauge too small)

Happy Tune Up

"What is mine? is it a GLT? GLE?"

Look for the emblem on the trunk. Is it a turbo? Is it an 8 or a 16 valve engine? RTFM.

For plug wires you won't go wrong at the dealer, but you might first be sure you're second mortgage is solid.

"...without warning the little 'OD' light will come on on the dash..."

Resolder the OD relay. $0, 15 minutes work, no risk, clean 'n easy work.

Do your fuel pump relay, too, before it leaves you stranded a million miles from nowhere on a cold, dark, rainy night with no signs of civilization and a dead cellphone battery.

If resoldering doesn't help then you're out $0.

Re: Plugs / wires 700 1989

Cap'n Foster: RTFM...= Read The Freakin' Manual? and, would the 'T' in GLT necessarily stand for Turbo? And finally, I have 4 relays, 2 each for '88 and '89 VoVos, 'donated' from my indy mech, my ride is an '86 TurboDiesel, so I don't need these: want'm? e-mail me.--PD.

"Read The Freakin' Manual?"

Close 'nuff.

"...would the 'T' in GLT necessarily stand for Turbo?"

I've been told that the "T" in GLT means it has all the turbo amenities sans turbo.

"...4 relays, 2 each for '88 and '89 VoVos, 'donated' from my indy mech...want'm?"

Thanks, but no thanks. Resolder 'em for practice or donate them to a worthy soul -- or sole -- here on the BB.

I racoon you gotta haddock to him. He's not shellfish even though his gig's a little clammy. I can't use the relays myself and woodcock up the job anyway.

Your response must be a complete fluke. You oyster watch what you start 'cause you gotta finish it, too, and the scale's tipped against you.
