My son is in college in New Orleans and his car is stalling and sometimes will not start I am in Dallas. Does any one know of a good mechanic in the area besides a dealership?

I know of a good volvo mechanics on the North Shore accross the lake.

My stock, knee-jerk answer is to suggest resoldering the fuel pump and "radio suppression" relays. Wife's '91 740 stalled earlier this year and that was the problem. I ended up resoldering every relay in the car.

The fuel pump relay is plugged into a relay tray behind the fuse block. Your son can access it by removing the small panel with the cig lighter (two screws) and swinging it out. The right side of the panel fits into a groove, so the panel pivots out, left side first.

If your son can do this, or find a friend to help, he can try this repair. It's likely to solve the problem -- and if it doesn't, he's out $0.
