RPM-sensor 900 93

How can i check the performance of an RPM sensor ?

Is this a regular(50.000 Mls) maintenance item ?

Can it be cleaned ?

All info is appreciated.

I have seen only one case where metal shavings from the flexplate wound up on a RPM sensor, fouling it's signal. It is not common.

Generally, the sensors come in 2 builds. Early, troublesome ones have a double yellow strip on the cable jacket, up near the firewall. The later, much more reliable ones have a single white stripe in the same location.

Beyond that.... it is a solid state component. It either works or it doesn't.

Its easy to test, just start the car, if it runs RPM sensor is OK. It is not considred a maintenance replacement item nor will cleaning benefit it. If and when it fails replace it.
