Won't Start 200 1983

I need your help. This has happened to me a couple of times in the last few days. I was on my way home yesterday, on the highway, when my engine stopped running. I still had electrical power. The battery is in good condition and the engined turned over easily. I suspected that I was not getting any fuel to the engine. I checked fuses 5,7,13 (main fuel pump, in tank fuel pump and fuel relay) All of them were in good shape and I even cleaned all the connectors in the fuse box suspecting a bad connection. I can hear the fuel pump behind the driver's seat working. Please help me before the winter arrives (It has already started snowing ere in Canada!).

Sincerely, Greg

Re: Won't Start 200 1983

Greg,

Did you check to see if you had spark to the plugs? If not, you have to check the ignition system.

What fuel delivery system do you have.

I had the same thing happen this weekend. My solution was to replace the main pump and filter. Problem sovled.

However, please dont resort to the "parts replacement method". That gets expensive.

With my problem I first checked to see if the ignition system was working.

Of course I checked all the fuses. Then I opened the gas line and cranked the engine to find just a trickle of fuel. When I tested with a fuel pressure guage there was no pressure. Even though the fuse is good, the pump could be bad.

With any of this you need to know what your're doing. If you dont, get someone who does. Or do some serious reading on these subjects.

1.make sure the ignition works.

2.check the pressure in the fuel lines.

Or have it done if you dont know how.

Good luck
