Backup light switch (M46) power flow question 200 83

My backup lights just stopped working altogether last Fri. Fuse is good, bulbs are good. I wouldn't expect the switch to fail completely like this (you would think jiggling it around would make momentary contact somewhere, but it doesn't.) So I'm going to verify the wiring before I believe its the switch.

Does the power flow from the fusebox to one side of the switch, then out the other side and through the backup lights to the common taillight ground? My Haynes is buried right now, and I'd like to check this out quick when I get home this afternoon.

TIA...

Re: Backup light switch (M46) power flow question 200 83

You are correct the power flows from No. 12 fuse to the switch and then back to the backup lights. Should be a blue-yellow wire from the fuse to the switch and black from the switch to the lights.

Re: Backup light switch (M46) power flow question 200 83

Sorry, I'm not an expert... But in my 740 when you connect the 2 wires coming out of the transmission for the reverse light, the light turns on. So I'm guessing it's a direct connection. If I were you I'd check the wires under by the tranny if possible because mine were corroded, causing the lights to be on all the time, but I can see how they could corrode and fall off.

Just a guess,

Nathan
