Where is the knock sensor located and.. 700 1990

On a 1990, 760 Turbo, where is the knock sensor located and is it interchangeable with a 1991, 940 Turbo knock sensor? The 760 error code indicates a bad knock sensor and I thought I would switch the sensors between my 940 and 760 and see if the 940 gave a knock sensor error with the 760's knock sensor installed in the 940. If it is not interchangeable, would a 1989, 780 Turbo, knock sensor be interchangeable with the 1990 760?

Thanks,

Leon

Fixed 700 1990

I got 2 knock sensors and a glove box lock from the junkyard yeasterday for $20. I installed one sensor and it did not fixed the problem because I hooked up the wrong wiring connector. I compared it with my 940 and found the correct connector and hooked it up. Test drove and it runs fine. The dealer wanted $79 for the sensor. Thanks to all that helped!

What next? 700 1990

I changed the knock sensor and still get the same code. What do I do now?

Re: Where is the knock sensor located and.. 700 1990

I also recently got this trouble code (alerted to it by check engine light), and the car started running like a real dog. I swapped the knock sensor with one off a 240, cleared the trouble code, and the car started running like new again. Put the old one back on, and the problem returned, so I concluded that the knock sensor was faulty. Just when I was headed to the dealership to buy another one (at a cost of $80) I started looking closely at the connector on the knock sensor I thought was faulty... there was a little bit of rust, so I took a wire brush to it and reinstalled it. Now the "broken" sensor is OK again.

So perhaps there is nothing wrong with your knock sensor either. Try cleaning the connectors before you spend any $ on a replacement part.

Good luck!

Left hand side of the engine block just below the head, centered between intake runners 2 and 3. It has one bolt holding it to the engine, torque on installation is important at 8 Ft-Lbs. It has the green wire to the harness connector. Yes, they all interchange.
