Oh my aching back.....HELP!!!!! 200 '88

i need to replace/repair my drivers seat QUICKLY. my back is killing me from driving to the office this morning. i think i may need to replace the top half of the padding. know any places to get padding?? i don't care if it's volvo original, specially engineered for maximum density, etc. i'm looking for foam that will fit and is as inexpensive as i can get. i'm cheap and i'll pinch a penny until lincoln screams.

any help/info is greatly appreciated.

Bubba

Get in there and see if your lumbar support is broken. A broken lumbar wire (and they are thin wires) will give you no lower back support, leaving the upper part of the seat to press uncomfortably into your shoulders. Open up the hog rings at the base of the seatback, unscrew the lumbar knob and its bezel, then roll the skin up.

If one of your lumbar wires is broken, you can bend a replacement out of a piece of coathanger wire. After breaking the OEM wires about 5 times (I had a stiff clutch pedal for a while), this fixed it for good.

If your foam is moved around, you can try squishing it back in place as the other poster mentioned. If the foam is flaking out like yellow snow (not THAT yellow snow!), you might need to get some replacement material.

Bubba, My seat was feeling pretty sad too. Two weeks ago I pulled up the skin to see what the issue was before gabbing my ankles and letting IPD have their way with me.

Yes the foam was torn through totally on my right side and the left was not looking good either. The lumbar support had a broken wire too.

What I did was push the foam back forward where it belongs and with this wire I have I fixed the Lumbar support and ran this wire back and forth a few times from frame rail to frame rail in the seat. I thought since I had it all apart I might as well try to do something while persuing a piece of foam. I tell you what, it looks almost perfect and it feels so firm and comfortable...I'am going to leave it as-is.

thanks for the response. can you give me some detail (you can email me direct: rdhillbcbsga.com) about what you did?? how did you get the headrest off? when you pushed the foam back into place, what held it?? anything you can supply will be great.

thanks, Bubba

Are the passenger and drivers seats interchangeable?

If you remove to seat from the slide rails, I'm fairly sure you can swap left and right seats.

The only snag is that once you reverse the left/right seats, there is no room to reach down on the inside edge to turn the reclining knob (presently on the outside by the doors).
