intermittant temp gauge failure 200 1988

does anyone have any experience with this? my temp gauge fails to work intermittently, and mostly during hot weather or after turning the engine off and starting it again soon after. many times, the guage works first thing in the morning, but on fuel stops or when runnnig errands, it goes kaput. the problem is much worse in the summer and sometimes i can go almost all winter (michigan) with no temp guage problems.

a local garage (that is not volvo expert) recommended i install a separate one of the dash, but i'd rather avoid this. at the same time, i don't want to ruin an engine.

thanks for your kind feedback.

Mark, Look in the Archives for "Compensation Board". What you describe is what I had going on (around November 20th 2000) Don Foster responded to my woes with pictures and everything. I'm sure you just have a bad connection between the pins on the Cluster Board and the socket on the Compensation board.
