B20 engine color??? 200 any

kinda rebuilding my motor... cleaning up underhood... what to paint my B20? it looks like it was some sort of orange or maybe a red. i'm thinking red would go nice with the dk. green '75 245. also: burnt my fuel hoses when motor toasted, but i've found a good replacement. most Audis use that Bosch fuel injection system, and have braided steel fuel hoses. i grabbed a handful of them, will see if they fit tomorrow! Audis are a bit more abundant than '75 B20s. it was an Audi 4000 I think. VW Golf, Scirocco, and Quantum have it too, but they are shorter. the Audi 5 cylinder was longer, and includes a handy extra :) -Rob

At the parts houses, you will see "Ford red". That's close enough.

Re: B20 engine color??? 200 any

I've been using RustOleum Rusty Metal Primer followed by RustOleum

(I think) Regal Red, or whatever their fire engine red is called.

I've been pretty happy with it. Since you only exceed 220° F when

you are out of water, it has sufficient temp resistance unless you

catch on fire. (That's why it is fire engine red, I guess.)

buffing aluminum intake / engine funk removal 200 any

Red it is then!!! any tips on polishing aluminum intake? i have a 3/8" craftsman $39 drill.... and a grinder-style sander/buffer. that's the extent of my electric tools. will one of those buffing wheels that goes in a drill polish up my aluminum intake? want my girl to look GOOOD. any advice on getting burnt up paint and other gooey funk off of my engine block? the head is off getting baked and ground so that'll come back clean. i can't use pressure washer or anything on the motor cuz water will get down in the block... -Rob "maybe i'm putting too much effort into a $400 car" Sealover

Re: buffing aluminum intake / engine funk removal 200 any

The only thing I imagine about polishing the intake is something to protect it afterwards. The aluminum will otherwise oxidize back to the same silvery-white.

I'm thinking degreaser and paint stripper should clean up the block.

I personally don't think it's too much effort, as I feel a lot more comfortable that something is not only fixed, but also looks nice too.

aluminum clean up 200 any

If the intake is off the car, try using alloy wheel cleaner. Eagle One make what they call etching wheel cleaner (has a purple stripe on the label as opposed to orange or green) that works wonders on cleaning alloy castings
