drain on battery 200 1993

I seem to have a current drain on the battery of a 1993 240 se estate, when i remove the fuse that controls the electic central locking and the radio, which I assume has a booster unit, the fault disappears . It uasually takes two days standing then the battery is flat. Any suggestions

Re: drain on battery 200 1993

Ian, had the same problem on my '88 240. I didn't know what was causing the drain. The central lock mechanism had stopped working a few weeks prior, but fuses were OK.

One late night, by accident, my wife heard an intermittent click coming from the lock area of drivers door.

The next day I disconnected the central lock mechanism for two weeks, and no battery drain. Reconnected the lock wires, battery drain in two days.

I replaced the central lock switch, now power door locks work fine and no more power drain.

Re: drain on battery 200 1993

Hi Ian,

I reckon it's your radio. Either remove or disconnect it or a few days and you'll soon know. I'm not a leccy wizz but i've come acoss this before where an internal short would cause a drain to earth but not enough to blow any fuses.

Any shorts to earth with your CDL components would likely lose enough juice to start popping fuses so I reckon it's less likely to be there. If it is then you'll have to check from top to bottom for shorts and test the individual components. Not a fun job at Christmas.

ood luck,

Big Rich.
