engine replacement 200 1981

I need to replace the engine for my 1981 240. Can anyone tell me how widely I can search for a relatively painless swap-- i.e., will I be in trouble if I go for a mid eighties B23? Will any B21 fit and work with the (alas, auto) transmission?

erik i put an 83 jetronic in my 81,you can make it easy on yourself if you have the donor car with you as you have to swap out the wiring harness. i put the overdrive trans. in altho the 81 did not have the extra holes for the trans. mount, the overdrive is 2 in. longer than the 3 speed auto so i just had a bracket welded on , but some 81's have the extra holes that is a good thing to check before you start. kris
