DIY IPD headers installation? 140-160 1971

I just bought headers from IPD for my 1971 142S. I have the original

(cracked) exhaust manifold and a weber intake manifold setup.

The IPD headers reach down farther than the stock manifold, thus requiring the collector pipe to be made shorter to connect to the new, lower, flange. Can this be done without welding equipment? Can i cut the pipe and stick it on the new flange, or is this going to require a trip to midas?

Making a dent in the header for clearance defeats the purpose of a performance header, if it don't fit that's IPD's fault, returnit or have them pay for mods. As far as the flange is concerned, make your measures then just take the pieces to a local small muffler place and asked them to do any welding/fitting (usually the chains won't do this). This is alot cheaper and allows you that nice "I fixed it good by myself" feeling.

Re: DIY IPD headers installation? 140-160 1971

asa,

you'll have to weld the new flange on to your exhaust. also watch the clearance on your lower a-arm. the ipd headers some time touch the arm so you would have to make a ding in the lower pipes with a balpen hammer or sent the header back and get a 4-2-1 header. good luck
