Fuel gauge and AMP light 200 75

I bought a '75 244DL 2 two months ago, so far its been great. The car looks and runs great. It only has 77,000 miles. Here is my problem. When I start the car in the morning, the fuel gauge doesn't register, and the amp light is lit. Then after I let it warm up for roughly 5-10 min. the light goes out and the fuel gauge works fine. This only happens when its cold outside. If I wait until its warm outside it starts normally. I suspect a ground problem but thats only a guess. Or maybe this is just a quirk of a 26 year old car.

Thanks for your help kgp

Check the brushes on the alternator. It's easy and can be done in situ. If the brushes are less than 5mm, get new ones. Your system has, I believe, an external voltage regulator (little box on the other end of the wiring harness from the brush plate) so be sure you get the right set.

This may effect the fuel gage, I am not certain.

    Good Luck,

    Bob
