Tach 200 1986

Changed out Clock and Put in Tach from 86/87. Hooked up Red/White wire. Tach works for about 5 minutes then shuts down. Won't work again right away. Car has to sit for awhile. The wireing diagram shows the feed for the tach running from the fuel relay and gear selection switch. Could it be grounding out at some point? Could heat be a factor? Can I run a wire from the coil direct to the tach?

The white/red wire actually runs directly from the coil negative terminal to the tach. If the harness is old the grounding might very well be the problem. You could try to run parallel wire just for the test purposes and see if it help any.

Well I can try to help you with this. The only info I have is from the WDM for 82. It shows a white-red wire coming from the coil to a terminal on the tach. There is also shown a blue-red wire going to fuse 13.

A second WD for B21F LH Jetronic shows gray wire and a shield going to the tach both coming from the coil.
