My target vehicle is an 86 745 GLE, but it is in "ALL" since responses will likely be valuable to other people who like their cars to look like a $10 watch.

I am very pleased with the asthetics of my Volvo, and the fine instrumentation (offset the fuel sender) it is outfitted with. I would however like to know my options for digital instrumentation for the various readouts available. Does anyone have any information on compatible equipment? Module and purely electronic advice would both be appriciated. :D

personnally, I would build my own. If you are at ease with basic electronics, a few chip manufacturers offers full analog to digital chips that are made to drive seven segment leds directly. Often, it is the matter of supplying the right voltage, connecting the leads at the right place, they requirer very little parts to operate (a potentiometer for tuning and a cap or two) and the data sheets usually haev diagrams on how to connect.

That is mostly my intent. I would like to see what other companies/people are doing as a template for what I want to do.

My "research" so far shows the fuel sender and temprature sender are both resistance based, which is not hard to figure out. I've seen diagrams showing the resistance ratios.

The spedometer and tachometer are both pulse based (which makes quite a great deal of sense to me). A counter with some sort of floating point compensator.I'll likely end up doing that with a BasicStamp. If I do use a BS, it will make putting in keyless entry (and starting) easier.

Either way, I'd really like to see if there are existing systems, and see what magic they did so I don't have to reinvent so many wheels.
