Safety Belt Reminder Lite

Short version of question I posted yesterday - does anyone know how the safety belt reminder system works? I have 1989 745 (B230ET if it make a difference) which is UK specification.

The drivers side safety belt reminder won't go out, even with belt buckled-up. It 'just went wrong' one day, and is so annoying - and distracting - especially as I ALWAYS wear my seat belt.

Tried connecting black and green wires together at the belt stalk - no effect. With exception of blowing fuse for drivers side day running lites (fuse number 22 I think - maybe a coincidence??) Took seat out 'to have a look'. Also appears to be no power up to seat - surely this can't be right? There are 3 wires at seat belt: black, gray, green, Also, at the multi plug under the seat, there is a thick blue wire, which stops at the plug, and doesn't continue up to the seat belt stalk (the thing the buckle goes in to).

Any ideas on how it works, how to fix it, or even how to by-pass the system will be much appreciated.

The fact that I'm writing this Christmas day just shows how much it's annoying me!!

Thanks,

Kevin

HAPPY CHRISTMAS

Thanks to those who answered my message. I did consider pulling the bulbs out of the system, but would that stop the (is ist the turn signal??) relay from clicking? All the time the seat belt is off, the dash warning lite and rear passenger warning lite flash, and also there's a clicking which I think is the turn signal relay. This may be different in US cars. I will try though.

So, if pulling bulbs doesn't stop the relay clicking, does anyone know how to by-pass the system? Unless it's impossible.............

European circuitry for the belt reminder is a bit different from the US approach. While the US system will switch off after a while, European won't
There is a load sensor under a passenger seat and if there is a short in it's wiring someplace the warning won't stop flashing until both belts are fastened. Try fastening both of the belts and see if it helps. Other than that you could look at the switches in the buckles, they might not work properly. Keep in mind that one set of the wires in the buckles is for the little red light that illuminates them in the dark. Unfortunately I don't remember the color scheme from the top of my mind, but it should be pretty obvious once you look at it. You could disable the system by pulling both of the bulbs, front and rear.

You can bypass a warning light be removing the bulb. Or use black electrician's tape.

I don't know if the seatbelt warning light is connected in any way to the seat belt. It may be on a timer that doesn't open up anymore.
